Special Award 2005
Special Award: Whistleblowing Friendly Culture Award Supporter: Public Concern at Work www.pcaw.co.uk
Winner: Asthma UK
In a very close field, Asthma UK was selected by Great Place to Work® Institute UK as this year's winner of the Whistleblowing Friendly Culture Award. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are also to be commended for their superb results. The award, supported by Public Concern at Work, is an excellent means of raising awareness about whistleblowing. It emphasizes the importance of whistleblowing as a governance tool, and the role employees can play in risk management.
In selecting the winner, we looked for the organisation that could best demonstrate an open and accountable culture supported by a whistleblowing policy. Most importantly, we chose the organisation where employees felt that if they witnessed wrongdoing at work, they could raise the issue with confidence that the matter would be addressed.
Asthma UK has a formal whistleblowing policy which sets out a route for how concerns can be raised outside line management, to the very top of the organisation or externally if appropriate. Importantly, Asthma UK also provides employees with an avenue to obtain independent advice about how to raise concerns responsibly.
